Thoughts on interracial marriage, who does it, and why.

According to stats, apparently the older generations (before there was much for mixing in America with it being illegal until around 1960) felt very differently about interracial marriages. . .but that's just racism people will say. The further you go back, the more "racist" they were. Or is it thanks to intermixing that racism has made the stereotypes wrong at times? 

 Instead of dismissing those in the past who lived alongside the blacks before all the mixing was legalized (thus confusing the matter), let's hear some thoughts on mixed marriages from the guy who gets a lot of flack for having had a child with an illegal mixed marriage: One of the founding fathers and our president, Thomas Jefferson.

 “When freed, the Black is to be removed beyond the reach of mixture.” (Thomas Jefferson). 

He believed Blacks and whites were polar opposites, and were like oil and water.

"Nothing is more certainly written in the book of fate than that these people are to be free; nor is it less certain that the two races, equally free, cannot live under the same government. Nature, habit, and opinion has drawn indelible lines of distinction between them." - The Life and Selected Writings of Thomas Jefferson  

What about the president who freed the slaves? Did he see them as we do now, the same with equal rights in society?

Racial separation, Lincoln went on to say, "must be effected by colonization" of the country's blacks to a foreign land. "The enterprise is a difficult one," he acknowledged, but "where there is a will there is a way," and what colonization needs most is a hearty will.  (Abraham Lincoln, Springfield, Illinois, June 26, 1857). 

And again: “… I give … the most solemn pledge that I will to the very last stand by the law of the State, which forbids the marrying of white people with negroes.” (Abraham Lincoln; Basler, 1953, p. 402-403). 

These laws have all been revoked now to say the least. . .

He was all for freedom and humane treatment, as we are now with our pets, but he was not for inter mixing!

Interestingly, those in the South (Blacks or those who have lived alongside the blacks the longest) are a majority in favor of again outlawing interracial marriages!


Before you shout "Republican" though, according to that same site the democrats and less educated were also more likely to vote for segregation. . .meaning a higher chance the blacks were voting for the segregation, then against the law. (90% of Blacks being Democratic and doing far worse academically then the rest of the country. . .)

It is also in the South where enough mixing has occurred that some mixed blacks are passing off as whites, according to DNA testing. You might be surprised to find out who these folks are, and how they feel about interracial marriage. . .I will save that for my next post though. 

Unlike whites, with only 4% of them being mixed, most Blacks are mixed. This confusion is because Blacks are less then 13% of the country. Blacks that we often see in the news or media have such a high percentage of white in them, that we can hardly call them black. The South (as well as pockets like in the Upper and lower peninsula of Michigan) is the only place where they are 80-100% pure black according to stats from DNA companies. 

So these are the blacks we can look to for the normal behavior as well as thoughts on interracial marriages. (Obviously the mixes would mess up the polls due to their conflicted interests.) Remember, a majority of those in the South want it illegal to mix!

Is this because they see what happens in these mixed marriages?
Do mixed marriages with those of presumably pure ancestry on both sides work out in the South? 

There is a big difference here in one segment of mixed marriage couples and another. "Many of the people engaged in stable, well-functioning interracial marriages tend to be older, more educated, and have higher incomes, all factors seen as increasing marital stability. Interracial couples that appear to be more vulnerable to marital difficulties tend to have lower incomes, less education, and limited residence in the United States. . ."

I strongly suspect that those who are well off and educated are those who are a good part white. . . so interracial marriage partners both coming from a similar stock will not surprisingly hit it off and be stronger as a couple in fighting the prejudice they will encounter from the (according to the earlier poll) white community.

This prejudice is because understandable presumptions and misunderstandings abound when going on the stereotypes of the pure blacks. So when a mixed couple is seen. . .a white person might think; for instance, that he raped her. (Common thoughts from whites are seen in this picture.)

If she had a baby out of wedlock with him, some might guess she is staying with him now only to make it work, or to not loose face to family. Though this may not be the case in the stable marriages, of the educated (high IQ) and wealthy minorities marrying equally affluent and educated whites, there is no doubt that rape and abuse must happen a lot and lead to the forming of unstable marriages. (Those with low income and less education.) Why do I say that? Stats on rape from this site, "Black on White Crime". The stats give a 90-200 times black on white rape, compared to the white on black rape.

Another presumption is that a white woman is in an abusive relationship, where she is being forced to stay with him against her will. And statistically, this is a fair concern!

“The incidence of spousal homicide is 7.7 times higher in interracial marriages compared to intraracial marriages.” (Burnett & Adler, “Domestic Violence,” emedicine, Jan. 17, 2006). During the 10 year period from 1975 to 1985, spousal homicide rates were 7.7 times higher in interracial marriages. (Mercy, 1989)." 

Why is rape, domestic abuse in general, and even murder much higher? For one thing, black men are marrying the more passive and missionary minded white woman, not the black woman marrying the white men. 

According to the 1990 Census there were 2.5 times more black husband-white wife marriages than white husband-black wife marriages, i.e., 72% of the miscegenating couples were black man-white woman.

This hasn't gone unseen in the black community. . One black blogger who was dating a white woman feels others who are even black are thinking this of him:

 "The inferiority complex. Colorism. He wants a trophy wife. Issues with his momma. Acting ”white.” Ego builder. False sense of self-worth. Rejection of his heritage. Acceptance from white society. “Doormat mentality” of women. Every time a brother walks hand-in-hand with a white woman we have some type of psychological diagnosis for him. At least one sister puts her nose up in disgust. . ."

While many marry, only the most elite, and the black wives with the white husbands seem to work out. . .like the mayor of New York and his wife.

"Interracial marriages that are the most vulnerable involve White females and non-White males relative to White/White couples. White wife/Black husband marriages are twice as likely to divorce by the 10th year of marriage compared to White/White couples."
